Paul Lawrence Grant II a.k.a. J. Paul Jr. is no doubt the “Zydeco Rebel.” With his own style and sound, he has taken zydeco to the next level with groundbreaking CDs and an energetic stage show that is known to leave his audiences wanting more.

The son of a pastor, Paul grew up in Conroe, TX, heavily involved in his father’s church. After showing an aptitude for music and the ability to play any instrument by ear, he began backing the choir on drums. Eventually, this love of music led him to what would become his obsession, zydeco.

J. Paul Jr. spent 3 years playing drums with Step Rideau and the Zydeco Outlaws before picking up the accordion. He formed his own band and started performing at local clubs, churches and different events. Gradually, the crowd caught up to the beat of his music, and he quickly rose up the ranks to become one of zydeco’s biggest draws.
